If you have been, in any way, a fan of indie-rock over the last decade or so, there is a thought that has probably crossed your mind a dozen or more times, and that is: “Is that dude ever not crying?”
Clarence Greenwood is his name, and he has been working under pseudonym Citizen Cope since he released his self-titled debut album in 2002. It was filled with heartbroken, quivering, sad-bastard ballads that gave a glimpse into a sensitive soul dealing with heartbreak.
Coming out in a time when emo was exploding and bands like Dashboard Confessional had an endless stream deeply devoted (mostly female) fans, Cope also managed accumulate a loyal underground army of (again, mostly female) fans that are fiercely loyal and obsessed with a man so in touch with his feelings he can write these sensitive tomes to inner anguish.
He has continued to release albums consistently since his 2002 critically acclaimed debut, but hasn't released any new music since 2012. He has mostly been a profoundly busy road dog, headlining sold-out rock clubs all over the country. While his shows over the last few years have been largely acoustic, Greenwood is bringing the noise this time out – and has brought a full band to play with him on the latest tour.
Citizen Cope’s full band tour will be stopping this Saturday, August 8th in Louisville at Headliners Music Hall. The show will begin at 9:00 PM and tickets are still available ranging from $41-$46. $1 from every ticket sold on this tour will be going to provide musical instruments for middle schoolers in Lame Deer, Montana.
