As a small business owner, I know how difficult it can be to earn recognition for hard work. Nancy Tarrant has owned and operated The Cheddar Box since 1979, and her dedication has paid off in an incredible way – in the September 2012 issue, Food Network Magazine named their Benedictine BLT the must-try sandwich of Kentucky in the article “50 States, Fifty Sandwiches”!
Nancy was told that their sandwich was being considered, but she had no idea it had been chosen when I came in to ask how she felt about the article! I am honored to have been able to bring the fantastic news into their adorable shop. The stunning photograph of the sandwich in the magazine was taken by Carolyn Courtney, a talented local photographer.
When I asked what makes their Benedictine different, Nancy replied, “It’s just better than anyone else’s in town!” Then she laughed, flashing a joyful smile, and added, “Everyone says that.” It’s easy to see why The Cheddar Box has done so well under Nancy’s leadership - she has an infectious passion for what she does, and the result is the excellent service and delicious products that have kept customers coming back for 33 years. Also, each and every employee is friendly and downright delightful.
So, is the Benedictine really good enough to be the must-try sandwich of Kentucky? Oh, yes! The bread is perfectly-toasted and topped with crisp bacon, lusciously-smooth Benedictine, fresh lettuce, and ripe tomatoes. It’s love served with a side of chips.
Next time you’re in the area, stop in to say congratulations and sample their famous sandwich! The lovely ladies inside will greet you warmly, and you’ll leave with a box or bag of something remarkably delicious. Also, they ARE hiring, so you may even leave with a new job!
