Foxhollow Farm, a grass-fed beef and vegetable farm located next-door to Louisville in Crestwood, Ky., has been committed since its founding not only to sustainable farming methods and spreading the word about local food sources, but also to integrating itself into the local community in an effort to support the vitality of every human being. To this end, Foxhollow is hosting the fifth annual Fall Festival, a celebration of autumn that has become something of a seasonal tradition for local families, on Saturday, October 13, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

This year, as in years past, a veritable cornucopia of activities and games will be offered to revelers of all ages. Favorite Fall Festival offerings like pumpkin-picking, hay and horse rides, and old-fashioned carnival games will be making their return, along with live bluegrass music and farm-fresh foods provided by Wiltshire Pantry, Rye, Grind Food Truck, and Gilberto Gelato. Tickets for additional activities like silk-dying and mural-painting can be purchased on site. All proceeds from these purchases and ticket sales will benefit Maryhurst, another beloved local entity. This non-profit organization cares for abused and neglected children and is the oldest child welfare agency in the state of Kentucky. More than 400 children benefit from Maryhurst’s gentle reach each year through services like a residential treatment program for teenage girls, foster care, and transitional living services for severely traumatized youth. Last year’s Fall Festival raised over $19,000 for Maryhurst and Foxhollow Farm’s Education Outreach programs, and this year’s promises to be just as successful, if not more so.

Foxhollow Farm is located at 8905 Highway 329 in Crestwood. Admission is free with parking, which costs $5 for the day. For more information regarding the Foxhollow Fall Festival, contact Shayne Brill at (502) 939-9787, Foxhollow Farm’s Maggie Keith at (502) 648-1092, or Maryhurst’s Jennifer Moran at (502) 271-4520.

    About Karen Ellestad

When I was seven and my brother was eight, we both wrote to 'Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?' for a free t-shirt. Two weeks later his arrived in the mail, signed by Carmen Sandiego herself, accompanied by an autographed picture of the cast, an official membership to the 'Gumshoe Club,' and a Rockapella casette tape. I got a postcard.
