How many times have you been asked where you went to high school? This is Louisville – it's important. Everybody knows everybody, and I theorize that we are no more than two or three degrees of separation from anyone else living in this city. Thus, where did you go to high school? There are possible connections. I work as a bartender, so people who come in to talk about bourbon ask me if I'm from Louisville (I moved here when I was eight, so yes-ish) and then where I went to high school (South Oldham, in case you're wondering, which approximately half of you are, I'm sure). School is important – it shapes who you are and who you become. We are here to talk about a certain preparatory school: the Kentucky Military Institute.
The KMI is one of the oldest military prep schools in the nation and has produced not only military officials but notable actors (Jim Backus from “Gilligan's Island” and Fred Willard from This is Spinal Tap, for instance) and a race car driver. Kiley Lane Parker and George Parker Jr. invite you to join them at the Louisville Palace this Sunday, October 27, for a screening of their documentary Character Makes the Man: The Story of the Kentucky Military Institute. The filmmakers will be in attendance for a Q&A following the film, along with various KMI alumni.
The film plays at 7:00 at the Palace. Tickets are $20 for the event, or $63 if you want to attend the VIP reception following the program. The Louisville Palace is located at 625 S 4th Street. Tickets can be purchased at the Louisville Palace website.
