Local history and Civil War buffs, take note. The Cave Hill walking tour series includes two opportunities to explore the stories behind the monuments and names inside the cemetery.
On Saturday, June 8, Civil War author and historian Bryan Bush will lead a tour focused on people who contributed to or were connected to the Civil War and the cemetery. You'll learn about female Confederate spy Elizabeth Temms, whose last wish was "bury me with my people," and Nicola Marshall, the designer of the Confederate flag and uniform, for example.
Sunday's historical walking tour of the 1848-1890 section of Cave Hill will be led by author, historian and architect Steve Wiser. Featured: notable monuments and people, and their connections to state and national history.
The walking tour series continues through October, and includes a tour featuring the monument art and artists of Cave Hill, as well as a Twilight Tram tour. Check the Cave Hill Heritage Foundation site for dates and times of each tour.
Proceeds of the walking tours benefit the Cave Hill Heritage Foundation.
