Winter Adventure Weekend at Carter Caves State Resort Park is January 28 to 30. It's hard to believe, but $25 is all it costs for access to events such as cave trips, a fire building workshop, rappelling off a bridge (aka Down for Dummies), an archaeological study, birding, guided hikes, and a canoe trip. Once you've tried out rappelling, you can match it with the Up for Idiots workshop and learn to ascend a rope.
Indoor events are planned as well. There is a cardboard maze cave, the infamous squeezebox to test how tight a space you can crawl through, and adventure presentations about the Grand Canyon, Appalachian Trail and El Capitan. If all that wasn't enough, there will be live bluegrass Saturday night.
Events are filling up fast, so I recommend registering soon. Coy Ainsley, the Park Naturalist at Carter Caves, says they may exceed two hundred participants this year. Some events are already full or only have a couple of spaces left. Register at www.winteradventureweekend.com. Carter Caves is about 150 miles east of Louisville, near Olive Hill, KY.
