Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest is on my summer bucket list for my family to check out this summer. We have yet to visit the forest and it’s been long enough that we have put it off. All summer long, all year long for that matter, Bernheim Forest offers so many adventurous events and programming for all ages. Come along with us and check them out yourselves beginning this weekend.

This Saturday, June 15, the forest is hosting their Sunshine and Sustainability Discovery Day from 9am-5pm. During this program, families will have a chance to discover how the Visitor’s Center uses features to make it sustainable during long summer days. You can take the Hike of the Day with a guide at 2pm and explore more hands-on discoveries. The ECO (Every Child Outdoors) Kids Discovery Days encourage families and their children to get outdoors and breathe the fresh air while learning all about nature. They occur on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month. The program is free for members of Bernheim Forest; there is a $5 per car entrance fee on weekends for non-members.

Feel like exploring Bernheim Forest at night? The forest offers full moon programs designed to tell a story about ecology at night, moon lore, and history. These night hikes are set on open trails with the moon shining your way, so flashlights are not needed. The next full moon night hike is on Sunday, June 23 from 9pm-10:30pm. The cost is $10 for members and $12 for non-members. Call 502-955-8512 as space is limited and registration and payment are due the day before the hike is scheduled.

Bernheim Forest is located at in Clermont, KY, 20 miles south of Louisville. Take 65 South to Exit 112. Call 502-955-8512 for more information regarding all of their family-oriented programming. You can also click here for a listing of their online calendar of events all summer and fall.
