The University of Louisville baseball team has been making a name for themselves within the pre-season; and this is seen unequivocally with their number four ranking in the country.
This was continued on a Cardinal sports triple header yesterday afternoon on that just cool enough Sunday.
At the newly expanded Jim Patterson stadium, the Cards pulled out a tight 2-1 victory over the Akron Zips that swept the series that began on Friday.
The Cards have certainly been showing a lot of potential thus far, and there has been plenty of talk about another championship coming to the Slugger city. This coming after the defensive struggle in the last game of the series, despite a rogues gallery of power hitters Louisville was able to outfield the Zips and at the end of the day that was the deciding factor in Sunday’s win.
Louisville continues their home stand on Tuesday when they take on in state rival Morehead State at 3, for a one off competition.
Meanwhile, a couple miles away at Ulmer Stadium, Louisville’s Women’s Softball team were in the midst of a double header that commenced with a victory over Kent State; in a close contest that concluded with a 3-2 Cards win.
Playing through exhaustion, the Cards went on to square off against Eastern Illinois next, who they summarily defeated 5-0.
So, in certain regards for the Cards on Sunday it was three up- three down.
The softball team’s next games will come at the Citrus Classic in Orlando beginning March 1st when they meet up with Texas and Temple in another double header, currently the softball team is 12-2.
