Kyle Kuric will graduate from the University of Louisville next month with a business management degree and plenty of great memories from his playing career, leaving with both an elite eight and final four appearance on his resume. The former homecoming king has had his share of big games and highlights but is this it for #14's basketball legacy?
Kuric certainly has options both on and off the court. Kyle has always been a bright student; he maintained a dean’s list GPA and also served as the student representative on the Athletic Association Board of Directors. It’s not hard to imagine Kyle moving on from hoops and flourishing in the private sector but how far could he go in professional basketball?
Kyle posted 12.6ppg in his senior year and shot 39% from the three point line for his career. The major knocks against him are his shaky handles and how passive he plays. Kyle defies (silly) stereotypes with his outstanding athleticism but at 6’4” & 195lbs, Kyle is undersized to play small forward in the NBA. Length and size bother Kuric to the point where he can totally disappear in games. This would be a red flag to NBA scouts because length and size IS the NBA. Earlier this month Kyle participated in the Portsmouth Invitational a NBA draft showcase for college seniors and yielded some rickety results. In three games against other pro prospects, he averaged 6 points & 2.3 turnovers. He didn’t shoot well nor did he show the aggressiveness needed to impress.
The body of work of Kyle Kuric has amassed at U of L is very solid but his limitations are painfully apparent. Kuric will never be a superstar at the next level, but he could thrive as a spot up shooter in the NBA, NBDL or even internationally. There are definitely roster spots available for shooting specialist, just ask NBA veterans Matt Carroll, Roger Mason or Maurice Evans. The chances of Kuric hearing his name on June 28th draft night are dim, but when you can consistently shoot the lights out AND excel in academia, his future will always be bright.
