On Sunday, October 7, families with children and adults who love the outdoors can hear a reenactment of the Tylers at Blackacre
State Nature Preserve and Historic Homestead. This weekend's event is titled "Meet the Tyler’s", a program geared toward any history buff, from children to grownups.
The reenactors will portray Moses and Phoebe Tyler and will open up their home to visitors this Sunday, October 7 from 2-5pm. You can take a step back into history and learn a little bit about life for them when they settled on Blackacre farm. The dialogue will be very educational, so bring your kids out for a history lesson while the leaves are just beginning to perfect themselves in Louisville.
There's not a better place to enjoy the fall foliage than on a farm! Add some pumpkin painting, a walk around the grounds, and a buggy ride and you've got a not so lazy afternoon! The cost is free but if you want to paint a pumpkin, the charge will be $3. They provide the pumpkins; they do ask if you plan to bring a large group to let them know so that they can plan accordingly. Buggy rides are weather permitting.
Blackacre is a wonderful gem tucked away off Taylorsville Road near Jeffersontown. My family has enjoyed the beauty numerous times. The first time we got up early on a Saturday morning and headed out to the barn to feed the animals. We have frolicked through the flowers. Most recently we attended a stargazers evening delight. The Louisville Astronomical Society set up telescopes and we experienced breathtaking views. The fondest memory we have was seeing Saturn's rings in their glory.
It is beautiful and full of paths and trails that expose you up close and personal with nature. Check back often because the preserve is constantly hosting events that are worth investigating.
