    Bit to Do

As a busy mother of a family of four, it’s hard to find time for myself as well as time for my husband and me to have some date time. Lack of babysitting options often lands us staying home or hitting up the dozens of kids-eat-free options around town when we do choose to go out. Yesterday, we had a rare opportunity to go out alone while our children had a babysitter -- we could not get out the door fast enough!

We headed to the Sunday brunch at BLU Italian Grille, at the Louisville Marriott Downtown. I had been chosen to review the restaurant’s brunch menu and to participate in an “Instagram takeover” of @bluitaliangrille on their Instagram account. We arrived downtown around 11am for our reservation, found a parking spot in a nearby self-pay parking lot and were seated within minutes in the beautiful dining room adjacent to the lobby of the Louisville Marriott Downtown.

Our server greeted us with a smile and a quick question of, “Are you familiar with the brunch here?” Since it was our first time dining here, we were not. She went through the array of options, which included a chef-attended omelet/eggs benedict station, a hot lunch station, a cold/continental station, hot breakfast station, antipasto/cheese/salad station, carving station, house made pasta and a dessert station. The brunch meal is served with your choice(s) of coffee, tea, juices, sparkling wine or bottomless mimosas.

As we ate, we were entertained by the live jazz trio playing near the BLU Bar at the far end of the restaurant. It was a lovely atmosphere and was the perfect way to start a simple, lazy Sunday. Our food was very good; my husband and I both tried the hot breakfast items. He also had a few pieces of pork tenderloin from the carving station and I had some salad greens, assorted cheese and crackers. We both enjoyed the delicacy of our desserts; he tried the raspberry chocolate cake and I had the apple crumb pie. The staff was very attentive for a self service/buffet type brunch and the dining area is beautifully and artfully arranged. I had trouble getting my Wi-Fi connection set up at first to shoot off my Instagram photo set, but a gentleman who worked for the hotel came by and quickly resolved the issue.

The brunch price is $23.95 per person. BLU Italian Grille is located at 280 West Jefferson Street.  See their website or give them a call to make a reservation at 502-671-4285.
