Playdates at the park may be few and far between as we button up and brace ourselves for winter. Luckily, several Louisville booksellers host weekly and monthly storytimes for you and your tots, giving your family an indoor activity that rivals any set of monkey bars.

    A Reader’s Corner at 2044 Frankfort Avenue

Second Saturday of the Month; next up: Saturday, November 10 at 11:00 am

If you haven't been to this book lover's treasure trove in Clifton, you are in for a treat. Not the dusty, dingy used bookstore you might be picturing, A Reader's Corner is bright, airy, and quite roomy. After each storytime, your child gets to choose a book to take home!

    Carmichael's at 2720 Frankfort Avenue

Carmichael's, down the road in Crescent Hill, doesn't offer a weekly storytime, but regularly schedules author signings and events that will appeal to your child or teen. On Saturday, November 18 at 4:00 pm, award-winning author George Ella Lyon will sign copies (and surely read from) some of her children's books, including her teen novel Holding On to Zoe, children's picture book All the Water in the World and the family keepsake A Kentucky Christmas.

Pottery Barn Kids at Oxmoor Mall, 7900 Shelbyville Road

    Tuesdays at 11:00 am

Unless you're a mallwalker you may not realize that a large group of children gathers in front of this children's furniture and décor store every Tuesday for storytime. Children receive a special reading passport that is stamped at every storytime they attend; after five stamps, they receive a special gift from the impressive gift book collection. Check the website for special themes and events.

    About Anna Frye

After living in Chicago, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Colorado, my husband and I made our (hopefully? probably?) final move back to Louisville, where I was born and raised. Ahhh...it's nice to be home. Now I'm busy making sure my three little ones learn to love the quirks and traditions of their new hometown: Kentucky Derby Festival, no school on Oaks Day, grits and hot browns (not necessarily together), monograms, parks, festivals, and even our seasonal allergies.
