To the outside world, they are the typical family. Inside the house, though, it's Next to Normal, which Acting Against Cancer will present starting Friday.
Next to Normal will go on Jan. 30, 31, Feb. 2, 6, 7, and 9 at 8 p.m. each night. Matinees are to take place Feb. 1 and 8 at 2 p.m. each day. All performances will go on in the Mex Theatre at Kentucky Center for the Arts, located at 501 W. Main Street in downtown Louisville.
Tickets for most shows are $19 per person. A show on Feb. 2 is only $10 per person. All tickets can be purchased at the Kentucky Center box office, the Kentucky Center website, or by calling the box office at 1-800-775-7777.
Next to Normal focuses on a family that, on the surface, seems like your typical family. The mother makes breakfast for the husband who goes to work and the kids who go to high school. However, the mother has been dealing with bipolar disorder, complete with hallucinations, for 16 years. As she continues to handle the illness, the family becomes more and more affected by the mother's changes.
Whitten Montgomery created the production, which Charlie Meredith musically directed. The cast includes Sydney Magers, Wesley Thomas, Kelsey Cox, Remy Sisk, Miller Kraps, and Blake Cox.
All profits from this show will help benefit the art therapy program at The Addison Jo Blair Cancer Care Center in Kosair Children's Hospital. Previously, Acting Against Cancer made a $100,000 pledge for the program.
More information on the show or the theatre company can be found at the Acting Against Cancer Facebook page.
