    Abbey Road on the River is partnering up with The John Lennon Songwriting Contest (JLSC) which is an international contest open to both amateur and professional songwriters around the world. AROTR and JLSC is offering a special Peace Promotion. All you have to do is submit a recording of your original song with the theme of 'peace' between the dates of April 1 - April 19. The winner will take home a Grand Prize Package consisting of:

    • An MBox from Avid
    • A JamHub BedRoom
    • Custom John Lennon Educational Tour Bus connector cables from Neutrik
    • $1000 towards travel expenses
    • A 1 night stay at the Galt House Hotel & Suites
      - Food for 2 will be provided on-site at the festival
    • A 30 minute set at Abbey Road On The River on The John Lennon Songwriting Contest Stage in the Muhammad Ali Center on Sunday, May 26, 2013

    Each entry requires the following elements:

    • One Song five (5) minutes or less (mp3, CD or cassette)
    • A lyric sheet -- no lyrics necessary for instrumental compositions
    • A payment -- $30.00 per entry
    • A completed application

    Read the Rules & Regulations carefully before entering.

    A professional recording is not required as your song will be judged on melody, composition, originality and lyrics (when applicable; instrumentals are welcome). The winner will be announced on April 23, 2013.

    The second songwriting contest is the Imagine Peace Songwriting Contest which, unlike the JLSC Contest, all contestants compete live at the festival. This contest is in conjunction with 91.9 WFPK. You do have to submit an audition tape to be considered as a contestant.

    Imagine Peace Contest Entry Requirements

    • To enter the Imagine Peace Songwriting Contest you have to write an original composition inspired by John Lennon's lifetime commitment to peace and love.
    • Songs should not exceed 4 minutes in length.
    • You must submit an audition video to Anna Blanton at anna@arotr.com by May 12, 2013 to be considered as one of the 50 contestants chosen to participate at the live competition at Abbey Road on the River.
    • You must submit a lyric sheet for both the audition and live competition, no lyrics necessary for instrumental compositions.
    • If you are selected as a participant, you must submit your application and $25 registration and processing fee via online or in the mail by May 19, 2013.
    • You must be available to participate anytime Saturday (1pm-5:30pm) and Sunday (1pm-4:30pm).
    • CDs, DVDs, and lyrics provided will not be returned.

    Imagine Peace Contest Rules

    • Contestants must perform the original composition they submitted in their audition video focusing on the theme of ‘Peace and Love’ not exceeding 4 minutes in length. You will be timed from when you begin playing until you stop playing. Your score will be affected if you exceed this time limit.
    • All genres of music are welcome.
    • Only one performer allowed per entry.
    • Only one song entry allowed per contestant.
    • You must submit a lyric sheet, no lyrics necessary for instrumental compositions.
    • A completed application and $25 registration is required to participate.
    • You must be available to participate anytime Saturday (1pm-5:30pm) and Sunday (1pm-4:30pm).
    • Contest is open to amateur and professional songwriters, including Abbey Road on the River performers.
    • If you are an Abbey Road on the River performer, your song must be original and not a part of your band’s set list for the festival.
    • Winners will be chosen by a select panel of judges comprised of Abbey Road on the River performers and staff.
    • Songs will be judged based on melody, composition, originality, stage presence, and lyrics (when applicable).
    • Semi-finalists and finalists will be announced immediately after each round.
    • If you become a semi-finalist you should have a short paragraph length bio prepared in the circumstance that you make it to the final round.
    • Grand prize winner receives A Gretsch Electromatic Guitar
    • 1st Runner-up receives a $100 Gift Card and 2 free hours of studio time at Guitar Center
    • 2nd Runner-up receives a $100 AROTR Merchandise Gift Certificate
    • Last 2 finalists get free entry in to the National John Lennon Songwriting Contest
    • Please note, by entering this contest does not mean you receive admission into the Abbey Road on the River Festival. If you wish to go over the pedway onto the Belvedere into the AROTR festival area you must purchase a separate ticket.
