Being relatively new to the city of Louisville I have been in search of things to do. In the process of finding ways to get out and about in a new city, I have taken to exploring some of the local destinations. One location that I have visited several times now, and thoroughly enjoy, is Waterfront Park.

Located on the north side of Downtown Louisville Waterfront park boasts 85 acres of:

    • Green space
    • Shaded trails
    •  Family friendly water play areas
    • Breezy views of the Ohio River
    • Even a tribute to one of Kentucky’s native sons; 16th President of the United States Abraham Lincoln

If you are the outdoors type and in search of things to do in Louisville Waterfront Park is a destination for you.  All in one place you can find pick-up soccer games and great trails to take your dog on for a walk. (Remember your leash and bags to clean up after your four legged friend. Waterfront Park is not technically a dog park and it is vital to be respectful of other park goers.) The park is very well maintained as I have never encountered overgrown grass or overbearing tree limbs. The fact that the city would set aside this much prime real estate purely to add enjoyment to residents’ lives is a testament to the culture here in Louisville.

On top of these constantly available amenities, Waterfront Park also hosts events on a regular basis. Some of these events are free while others will put you back a few bucks.  Most seem to be sponsored by independent organizations, as opposed to the park itself, which means that attendance can be a great way to find organizations that you might want to interact with in the area. Take a moment to check out the “Events” page on their website to get involved in the next 5K or a session of Yoga in the Park. Waterfront Park is one of the city’s many public parks. Thus far in my tenure here in town it is my favorite.
