A little over a year ago, I moved to Louisville from San Antonio, TX. It was not for work or family, but for the desire of a change of scenery. I immediately fell in love with the small town feel of Louisville, but struggled with meeting new people. I also lacked the motivation to explore the city on my own. About four months ago, I discovered Meetup.com and truly began to experience all the richness that Louisville has to offer.
Meetup.com is a social networking website that connects users with various interest groups in the city in which they live. There are book clubs, photography groups, religious groups, and yoga clubs. The site offers a group for essentially any interest under the sun. If you can't find what you are looking for, you can create your own group and invite others to join.
I have become involved in a handful of Meetup.com groups, and have not only met people who share interests similar to my own, but I have now started to experience the best of Louisville. Having a little company along the way hasn't hurt.
