Louisville Lights Up Big Four Bridge

Louisvillians are invited to a ceremony marking the official illumination of a new light show on the Big Four Bridge this evening at 7:30 p.m. In Waterfront Park, adjacent to the Tumbleweed restaurant, Mayor Greg Fischer will officiate the celebration and kick off what will be a new nightly attraction on the Ohio River pedestrian bridge.

1,500 LED lights will create a variety of effects with color and motion. Waterfront Development Corporation President David Karem has said that the system will definitely be specially programmed to highlight local events like University of Louisville sports as well as holidays.

The display is said to be visible for a mile – or more – depending on who you ask.

After tonight’s celebration, the light display will be seen every evening from twilight until around 1:00 a.m.
