Use some of these ideas to celebrate New Year's Eve together with your family, and keep some dollars locally in the Louisville economy while doing so.
1. Buy a new game to play together on New Year's Eve at local shops and toystores. Toyland in Oxmoor Center is closing and all merchandise is 50% off. I love The Parent Teacher Store and Toys Too!, which is closed for the holiday and will reopen on Friday, January 2. Friday and Saturday they are having a new year's sale with 20% off all merchandise. Their hours are 10am-4pm on Jan. 2 and 10am-6pm on Jan. 3.
2. Order a pizza from a local pizza place such as Clifton's Pizza Co., Wick's Pizza, or Papalino's (just to name a few).
3. Buy NYE décor and festive party ware from locally owned or franchised shops like Horner Novelty and Caufield's Novelty.
4. Get some goodies/desserts for a late night snack or New Year's Day treat from local bakeries like Plehn's, Nord's, Heitzman, or some cupcakes from Gigi's.
5. Paint together at a local place such as Whet Your Palette in Anchorage and make a new year artsy piece for your home. Also check out this fun new painting place in Jeffersontown, The Blended Canvas, open all week from 12pm-8pm for a drop-in at your own leisure artsy time.
6. Buy a unique jar from a local place to use for the new year to place your thankful notes in it all year long. Next year on NYE 2015, read them together.
7. Dig out some dress up clothes, Halloween costumes, jewelry, silly hats and shoes, ties, etc. and throw together some wacky outfits to wear to celebrate the new year together.
8. Put on a play together-pick up a book with a unique play you can do together from your local library or local bookstores such as Carmichael's Kids or A Reader's Corner. The Louisville Free Public Library locations are all open on New Year's Eve until 5pm.
9. Have a night out on the town together and feast at a local restaurant as a family.
10. Make some special drinks (maybe some kid-friendly and adult versions) with ingredients from local places. Or blow up some balloons and have a Noon-Year's Eve balloon drop in your living room! Just remember: make it fun, make it simple, make it local! Happy New Year!
