My birthday was last week and I was in desperate need of some relaxation. My husband, being the thoughtful man that he is, made me an appointment at Z Salon & Spa at the Seelbach Hotel for a 60 minute massage. I had heard of Z before, but had never been.
I arrived and was greeted warmly with a full tour of the spa. I was shown the woman's changing room which had a dry sauna, a steam shower, lockers, and a sitting room with couches. I felt like I was in a lavish bathroom on MTV cribs. I changed in to a big comfy robe and sat in the sauna awaiting my appointment. I was greeted by my massage therapist, Samantha, who was perfectly on time. She started by giving my a foot bath and asking me about my stress level, how often I get massages, and what is my favorite/least favorite parts of a massage. I particularly appreciated the last question because I was able to have control over where the majority of time was spent. Also, it was nice to talk with your therapist a bit before you started taking off your clothes.
The massage was amazing. I had arrived with serious tension all over my body and an intense sinus headache. Samantha used eucalyptus oil as part of my Aromatherapy and my sinuses opened up and my body relaxed. I felt completely comfortable and taken care of by Samantha.
After the massage, I took a steam shower using all complimentary Aveda products. I was even given a mini styling lesson by a stylist passing by. Apparently I have been using a diffuser wrong all these years! The stylist didn't need to help/correct me, but she took the extra 5 minutes. Before I left, I was even offered a 1/2 off manicure because there had been a cancellation. Unfortunately, I had to get going to make a dinner reservation.
As I was checking out, the front desk had some products placed out for me that were recommended by my massage therapist; Aveda eucalyptus oil and a neck wrap that I had ooh-ed and ahh-ed about during my massage - I purchased them both. In the end, my total was under $100 AND there is no tipping at Z Salon & Spa. No tipping! I have never experience this at a salon or spa and it was wonderful.
Under $100 for a 60 minute massage, 15 minutes in the sauna, a steam shower with all the products included, a styling lesson, a neck wrap pillow (which I have used almost everyday since then. It gets heated up in the microwave. Ah-mazing), and a large bottle of Eucalyptus oil (which I have also used every night before bed to help open my sinuses). I was very impressed and hope to return soon.
