The Younger Woman’s Club (YWC) of Louisville will host its annual Charity Ball on February 18, 2012, at the Seelbach Hotel.

Every year at the Ball, YWC honors a Citizen Laureate who embodies the essence of volunteerism. This year, YWC is proud to honor “Cathe Dykstra” who is CEO of Family Scholar House (FSH) - one of the charities YWC has actively supported through grant support and volunteerism.

Cathe describes her position as “Chief Possibility Officer” for Family Scholar House which employs strategic capacity-building initiatives to empower single-parent students to earn their college degrees and integrate graduates into the community as employees, homeowners, and active volunteers.

One success story of FSH is Elizabeth Scott, a single mother of two children who endured abusive relationships, financial hardship and homelessness. With their help and support, Elizabeth learned and embraced self-sufficiency--eventually earning her Master of Science in Social Work and purchasing a home where her two children are now flourishing in a safe environment.

According to Ball Co-Chairman, Casey Wilson, “One of the beautiful things about YWC is that we are women from all walks of life and each of us can each relate to Elizabeth Scott on different levels. We are honoring Cathy Dykstra who spends her life changing lives like Elizabeth’s through Family Scholar House. The charity’s work may not be the most publicized or well-known—but this is the work YWC wants to support and honor. The Ball is our largest fundraiser for our charity campaign to help make these tangible differences in people’s lives.”

Since the YWC was founded in 1921, the club has given over $3.4 million to charities. Each year 100% of the money raised through our charity campaign funds grant requests of local agencies.

The evening will begin at 7:00 pm with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction and music by local musicians, “This, That and the Other”. Corporate sponsors are also important to the financial success of the YWC Charity Ball, to become a sponsor contact us at: ywc@,ywclouisville.org

    About Bella Portaro

Happiness Cultivator. Blogger. Writer. Social Media and PR Maven. Dreamer. Louisville Lover. Blogger at Bella of Louisville; a lifestyle blog. A lifestyle is- by definition to me - the way in which one chooses to live their life. As I’ve entered into this chapter / book of my life with a strong understanding of who I am, lifestyle has become about the art of living well. This idea goes beyond creating a beautiful home and investing in my wardrobe. Living well means being kind, being good company, contributing to your community, and becoming a person of substance and grace. If designing a life full of substance and grace isn’t aspirational, I don’t know what else is. I love writing about events and things to do in Louisville. I hope you enjoy my posts and connect with me on social media!
