While the forecast for Friday, June 6 has yet to be set, plenty of people are spending $55 for some space on Waterfront Park’s Great Lawn so they can see the legendary Willie Nelson in concert.
It’s part of a 35 city tour for the summer and features co-headliner Alison Krauss and Union Station. Be prepared for a time because Shotgun Willie has all the accolades due an artist of his success and longevity.
He’s been a Kennedy Center honoree and is even in the National Agricultural Hall of Fame based on his work with Farm Aid. The Country Music Association named him the first recipient of their Lifetime Achievement Award, which they also named after him. He’s won more awards than can be listed in a brief article.
The last time Nelson was scheduled to be in Louisville it was a show at the Louisville Palace in October of last year. Now there’s a chance for more people can enjoy Willie and Family as he uses Trigger, his guitar, to guide you through “Always On My Mind,” “My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys” and “On the Road Again.”
In fact, the Red Headed Stranger will bring songs from his 60 plus albums and there will surely be favorite songs that won’t be sung but that’s the danger of being one of the greatest living recording artists. Last year’s 29 song setlist could have been doubled and the fans would still walk away feeling like the show was too brief.

Bringing their own brand of beautiful noise will be Alison Krauss and Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas. Krauss’s nearly 30 year career would be worth the price of admission all by itself. She and her band have been nominated for 41 Grammy Awards, winning 27 statues which is the most by any living honoree.
Wild Feathers opens the show with modern yet nostalgic rock and roll. You’ll have to see the show to know what that means. They start the evening at 7pm.
