Taking lunches to Oaks and/or Derby? The Derby Festival's guidance this year says you are permitted to bring:
“Box” lunches in clear plastic bags or containers (maximum size 18” X 18” - no trash bags)
What's easiest is to order box lunches ahead of time and pick them up before you head to Churchill Downs. Not having to shop, cook and pack lunches for everyone in the "right" containers means several fewer things to worry about and more time for fun. Here is a list of some (not all) of the local establishments offering Oaks and Derby box lunches.
Red Clover
Chefs Matt Jones and Amber McCool offer slow-roasted BBQ beef brisket, shrimp and crab rolls, a lemon artichoke press and several other amazing-sounding lunches, $18 each.
