Wednesday saw the Waterfront jam packed with concert goers as WFPK radio in conjunction with Waterfront Development Corporation and Friends of the Waterfront held their 10th anniversary concert on the breezy evening.
The event drew countless Kentuckians as parking lots and street parking yielded few spots. Inside vendors offered food and fun for all ages.
For ten years now WFPK’s summer concert series has offered a place for new music lovers to meet and congregate around the common interest of free concerts.
In the past three years alone the stage presented artists such as blues rocker Paul Thorn, indie notables VHS or Beta, alt-country stars Josh Ritter and Todd Snider, among many others.
Yesterday’s show really kicked off at six with the introduction of Scars on ’45, who were followed by Abigail Washburn at 7:30 and taking the headliner spot was Nicole Atkins at 9.
To listen to past shows and watch videos from the artists check out wfpk.org, where there currently gearing up for their next Waterfront show July 27th which will feature Hayes Carll, Ponderosa, and Uh Huh Baby Yeah, as always this show will be free and will open at five that evening.
In addition the station is piecing together future summer events including July 1st’s third annual Louisville brew fest, the Waterfront Independence Festival- July 3rd and 4th and of course the dude will abide during Lebowski fest July 15th and 16th, more events can be found at their website.
