I’m no expert on war strategy, but if Canada were to invade the U.S. I would think they would start with the 13 states up north near the Canadian border. Instead, they’re headed right for Louisville. Their folly is our gain because they’re bringing over a dozen world-class photographers for the Canadians Invade Louisville exhibit at the Mellwood Art Center.
The Canadian invasion will be overtaking all of the galleries at Mellwood and overflowing to the Kaviar Forge Gallery. Saturday, Oct. 22nd at 5:30 p.m. there will be an artist reception at Mellwood where the photographers will be on hand to discuss their work.
On Sunday, Oct 23rd from 11:30 – 1:30 p.m. photographers Russell Monk, Barrie Wentzell, and Ryan Pyle will each give a lecture on their craft and how to transition from being a commercial artist to a fine-art professional. Meet Ryan Pyle after the lecture at Kaviar Forge Gallery on 1718 Frankfort Ave to view his exhibit from 2-4 pm.
There is an admission fee for the lectures.

Bios of the lecture photographers
Russell Monk- has been photographing for over 30 years. Both his personal and editorial ('assignment') work have been published worldwide and won numerous awards. He is currently working on a series of photographs in Mexico. Monk's portraits have an immovable stillness that becomes monumental.
Barrie Wentzell- shot for Melody Maker from 1965 until 1975, one of the most important decades in the history of popular music, photographing many unknown musicians who would later become legends and household names. Some rare and never before seen images will be shown for the first time at this show.
Ryan Pyle- is an award winning photographer, television presenter, filmmaker and author. He is based full time in Shanghai, China. In 2010 Ryan, with his brother Colin, produced and directed a documentary film about their 65 day – 18,000km - Guinness World Record breaking motorcycle journey around China, which will air in summer 2012.
This exhibit is in conjunction with the Photo Biennial and will be on view until Oct. 31st.
