I know awards shows are pointless – almost as pointless as college basketball – but just as the majority of you for some reason see the need to put all sorts of time, effort and money into watching men in shorts toss a ball around, I cannot help but get excited about the Oscars, film enthusiast that I am. True, for a film geek it can be frustrating. However, I too am gearing up for the 87th annual Oscars.
You can join the Louisville Film Society this Sunday, February 22nd, at 7:00 for their Oscar Watch Party. The city’s film enthusiasts will be there to watch the smorgasbord of stars, celebrities and bad joke writing. Bet on your favorites – will the incredible Birdman sweep the awards, or will Wes Anderson finally be given his due for The Grand Budapest Hotel? Will J.K. Simmons finally get his prize for Whiplash, or will Edward Norton steal it away for his amazing performance in Birdman? No one knows – Oscar’s gotten kind of wonky over the last several years, and it could go anywhere.
Admission to this event is $75 for Louisville Film Society members and $100 for members. The price of admission, however, nets you a full year of LFS membership. The event also includes drinks, snacks, prizes and competitions. The party will take place at Copper & Kings, located at 1111 E. Washington Street. Tickets can be purchased at the door, or you can RSVP online.
