I know awards shows are pointless – almost as pointless as college basketball – but just as the majority of you for some reason see the need to put all sorts of time, effort and money into watching men in shorts toss a ball around, I cannot help but get excited about the Oscars, film enthusiast that I am. True, for a film geek it can be frustrating. However, I too am gearing up for the 87th annual Oscars.
You can join the Louisville Film Society this Sunday, February 22nd, at 7:00 for their Oscar Watch Party. The city’s film enthusiasts will be there to watch the smorgasbord of stars, celebrities and bad joke writing. Bet on your favorites – will the incredible Birdman [4] sweep the awards, or will Wes Anderson finally be given his due for The Grand Budapest Hotel [5]? Will J.K. Simmons finally get his prize for Whiplash [6], or will Edward Norton steal it away for his amazing performance in Birdman? No one knows – Oscar’s gotten kind of wonky over the last several years, and it could go anywhere.
Admission to this event is $75 for Louisville Film Society members and $100 for members. The price of admission, however, nets you a full year of LFS membership. The event also includes drinks, snacks, prizes and competitions. The party will take place at Copper & Kings [7], located at 1111 E. Washington Street. Tickets can be purchased at the door, or you can RSVP online [8].
