Walden Theatre students tackle Shakespeare and a French classic work during the Young American Shakespeare Festival 2013, which opens tonight.
During the festival, Walden Theatre will present two works from Shakespeare, Two Gentlement of Verona and The Tempest. Also, the festival will showcase The Liar, an adaptation of a French classic work. Two Gentlemen of Verona takes place on May 9, 11, 13, 16, and 18. The Tempest goes on May 10, 12, 15, 18, and 19. Finally, The Liar occurs May 11, 12, 14, 17, and 19. Exact times for each show can be found at the Walden Theatre website.
The Shakespearean comedy Two Gentlemen of Verona opens the festival tonight, featuring two possible suitors for the lovely Sylvia. There will be banishment, disguises, and plenty of comedy as the duo attempt to win Sylvia's hand. J. Barret Cooper directed this production for Walden Theatre.
The Tempest opens next at Walden Theatre, featuring a powerful man, living alone with his daughter, attempting to seek revenge against his enemies. He sees his chance to bring them to his island via a powerful storm, but will his revenge tactic backfire? Julane Havens handled directing duties for this show.
Last, but certainly not least, is the French classic The Liar. The French comedy, which Pierre Corneille created and David Ives adapted, features a man who just can't seem to tell the truth. Constantly, he finds himself in and out of situations due to his lies. Check out the comedy, which Charlie Sexton directed.
Tickets for evening shows are $15 per adult, $10 per student, and $10 per senior citizen. Matinees are $10 for adults, $8 for students, and $8 for senior citizens. Tickets may be purchased at the Walden Theatre box office, which opens one hour before show time. Tickets can also be reserved by calling 502-589-0084.
