The Ultimate Fighting Championship, or UFC, has moved far past its days of being a renegade sport banned in many states around the country to become a powerhouse in spectator sports rivaling boxing and wrestling. And, the UFC is making its way to Louisville with its throngs of fans on Thursday for UFC live at the KFC Yum Center. Airing live on television on VERSUS, the card kicks off at 5:40 with the opening bout of Pokrajac/Brown and proceeds into the main event – Diego “The Dream” Sanchez vs. Martin “The Hitman” Kampman. Live television coverage begins at 9.
This is a battle between two stars of the welterweight division that fans of UFC have been looking forward to. The two are separated only by two inches with Kampman having a minor height advantage. Both fighters come to the ring with four losses, but Sanchez has the upper hand there boasting twenty-four victories versus Kampman’s seventeen.
Last Friday, middleweight and Japan native Mark Munoz appeared at the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory receiving a guided tour. While there, he welcomed fans and hyped his own battle on Thursday’s fight night against CB “The Doberman” Dollaway prior to beginning his own training in town. Munoz, whose considered a “striker” in ultimate fighting, has been evenly matched against takedown expert Doberman.
Other matchups include Rousimar Palhares vs. Dave Branch, the vetran Rob Kimmons stepping in the ring against Dongi “The Ox” Yang, Alessio Sakara vs. the undefeated newcomer Chris Wedman, Steve “Robot” Cantwell squaring off with Cyrille “The Snake” Diabate, and five other matches that are sure to bring out fight fans.
Tickets are still available either at the Yum Center box office during the week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or at Ticketmaster HERE.
