    Bit to Do

A new splash park has just opened in the Louisville area. It’s Skyview Splash Park in the City of Jeffersontown. The splash park is located within the grounds of Skyview Park off of Watterson Trail. My toddler and I just visited yesterday, along with my 11 year old daughter, and were very impressed.

If one knows me very well, one knows that I love Jeffersontown. I live and breathe my little city and neighborhood feel within Louisville. I worked at the Jeffersontown Library for many years, my daughter attends school here, and my family lives in the heart of it. I have been hoping for a splash park or sprayground in J-town for a long time. Finally, there is one!

The Skyview Splash Park is a great addition to an already bustling and well established park. Skyview Park is home to area youth baseball and softball teams and games, as well as little league matches. There’s even a Facebook page dedicated to bringing minor league baseball to Jeffersontown. So, this park is busy every night of the week, especially in the summer, and the splash area brings a great way for kids and parents to cool off, whether it’s while watching their kids play a baseball game or 11am on a weekday with their younger ones.

My tot and I will be exploring the park weekly. I could say daily but I don’t know that I want to set myself up for that. During the summers my older child will come along for the ride, and we’ll pack picnics and sit under the huge covered pavilion that sits directly next to the new splash park. There’s also a great playground on the other side of the splash park. One unique feature to the new splash park is that the water that is used to spray the kids will be collected into a separate basin and recycled. It will be used to water the park’s many ball fields-a concept that is new to Louisville and the first one to be implemented. Rain water can also be collected and recycled as well.

So, if you venture over to the Skyview Splash Park in Jeffersontown this summer, you’ll probably spot me. I’ll be the short-haired brunette calling out to my toddler to use his walking feet. He’s the lightly fine-haired tot who never stops moving! Come by and say hello.

Skyview Splash Park opens to the public today, July 1, and will be open daily from 10am-9pm.
