I know Saturday is Thunder Over Louisville and you kinda wanna lay low on Friday, revving up for the next day. But don’t do that, especially if you find yourself downtown, there will be two fantastic shows happening in Here Come the Mummies and O.A.R., both are bands that are more than worth catching on Thunder Eve.
Here Come the Mummies is the one of the best kept live secrets on the road.
The band is half, the greatest 70’s funk/soul throwback band; and half naughty comedy act. They’re by no means dirty, but countless allusions and innuendos swirl off these guys with little more than a wink and a nod.
The truth behind the band is that they are a collection of highly in demand studio musicians, all contracted under different record companies. Therefore, they all play under pseudonyms and in head-to-toe mummy costumes, in an attempt to protect their identities.
What this does mean is that they are a highly talented association of musicians, who put on a cheeky, high-energy show that is simply beyond words. I can’t explain it any further; it is just something one must experience to understand.
Here Come the Mummies will be at Mercury Ballroom, Friday April 11th@ 8 PM, $25.
If you’re not so much in a funny mummy mood, and you find yourself downtown, O.A.R. (of a revolution) will be performing a show at 4th Street Live, as well.
O.A.R. is a jammy college-pop band that has been putting on killer live shows all over the country for well over a decade.
They are the band behind radio hits like “Love & Memories” and “Shattered”, as well as the band’s live opus “That Was A Crazy Game of Poker” – genre bending tale of a gambler on the roam.
Even though they never blew up to pop-superstardom, you can’t help but have fun with these guys, considering they put on a fantastic live show every night. If you’re a fan of artists like Blues Traveler or Sister Hazel, you will not wanna miss this band.
O.A.R. will be performing on the street at 4th Street Live, Friday April 11th @ 8 PM, $5.
