    Summer horse camp/lesson time is fast approaching and we have some great area horse farm offerings for parents to check out.

    In Kentucky:

    Louisville Equestrian Center - The following camps are being offered at LEC

    (Ages 3 - 15).

    May 28 - May 31, 9 am-12:00 pm: Homeschool Horse Experience

    June 3 - June 7, 9 am- 4 pm: Small Fry Camp (half day available)

    June 10 - June 14, 9 am-4 pm: Pony Princess Camp “Elite”

    June 17 - June 21, 9 am-4 pm: Intermediate Camp

    July 1 - 5, 9 am-4 pm: Games Camp “Elite” 9 am - 4pm

    July 15 - July 19, 9 am-4 pm: Horse Lover’s Camp (Half day available)

    July 22 - July 26, 9 am-4 pm: Experience Equine Camp “Elite”

    July 22 - July 26, 9 am-4 pm: Small Fry Camp (Half Day Available)

    July 29 - August 2, 9 am-4 pm: Cowboy/Indian Camp “Elite”

    August 5 - August 9, 9 am-4 pm: Drill Team “Elite”

    August 12 - August 16, 9 am-4 pm: Horse Lover’s Camp (Half day available)

    2013 Camp Costs are as follows:

    Regular all day camp - $385.

    Regular half day camp (9 am-12 pm) - $199.

    Elite Camp all day camp - $425.

    Rodden Equine - Summer camp is for riders ages 7-17.

    In camp riders will learn to saddle, bridle, mount, and walk, trot, or walk, trot, canter safely. More advanced riders will tackle trail obstacles and jumps! We offer lots of in saddle time as well as crafts and games.

    Camps are held on the following dates:

    June 10-14, 2013

    August 5-9, 2013.

    YMCA Camp Piomingo - Camp Piomingo is a summer overnight camp that offers one and two week equestrian programs for kids ages 9-16 years.

    Summer camp dates are as follows:

    June 9th - August 2nd. Each rider is assigned his/her own horse and given daily mounted instruction on the basics of English riding including control at the walk, trot, canter, jumping, and trail. Campers also participate in traditional activities such as archery, rock wall, swimming, hiking, and more! Information and online registration is available here or by calling 800-411-5822. Camp Piomingo is located inside Otter Creek Outdoor Recreation Area at 1950 Otter Creek Park Rd., Brandenburg, KY 40108.

    In Indiana:

    Cedar Ridge Farm: Ages 5-17 -

    Cedar Ridge Farm offers a Summer Session of riding lessons that runs throughout the entire summer starting on June 10 and continues through August 4. Both English and western disciplines are offered. Lessons are once a week for one hour and students learn the safety rules to be followed on the ground and in the saddle, how to properly groom the lesson horse, tack and un-tack the horse, mounted lesson instruction which includes learning western events of barrel racing, pole bending, flag race and other fun games events. English events taught are the proper seat, dressage, jumping, as well as other practical and important horsemanship skills. This is a great hands on program to prepare lesson students for responsible horse ownership. Lessons are held in small groups of no more than 3 students per group which allows students to advance in a more timely manner in their skills. Beginner and intermediate levels offered.

    Owner of Cedar Ridge Farm which operates a children's horseback riding lesson program in Greenville, IN. I have been involved with equine welfare and rescue activities. We have successfully rehomed at risk horses and retrained off the track thoroughbred racehorses in new careers in hunter/jumper, eventing, dressage, and barrel racing disciplines.
