My allergies are in full throttle, which only means one thing: Spring Break is here! JCPS is just one of the many school systems that is on break this week.
And while kids once counted down the days until their reprieve from school, now they are most likely sitting on your couch complaining of boredom. Here are some special Spring Break offerings from the many museums of Louisville that will stave off ennui and keep the kids happy:
Kentucky Museum of Arts and Crafts:
This hip museum on W. Main Street in downtown Louisville is holding
Spring Break drop-in workshops all week long. Come by anytime between 1-4 and kids will spend 20-30 minutes on a hands-on project. The cost is just $6 per child.
Speed Art Museum:
Stop by the Speed for Spring Break Gallery Adventures this Wednesday and Thursday. Kids can explore the museum and create artistic works of their own mythical creatures. You can drop by anytime during the hours of 10 am to 1 pm and the program is FREE!
Frazier International History Museum:
Frolick on down to the Frazier Museum for some fascinating history at your fingertips. See Roosevelt's big stick, Geronimo's rifle and the arms and armour of knights and kings.
Louisville Science Center:
This was the only museum of the bunch that existed when I was growing up in Louisville (which goes to show just how much has changed in the city!). Right now, the Louisville Science Center has a great interactive exposition on robots. Explore the field of robotics in this exhibit that is based off of the 20th Century animated feature, Robots.
Kentucky Center for African American Heritage:
Come explore the ancient artifacts of King Tut at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage. The boy king, Tutankhamun takes a starring role in the very first exhibit in this brand new museum. Tickets for the exhibit are $5 for adults and only $3 for students.
The Louisville Slugger Museum:
Today is the first day of opening season for baseball. So what better way to celebrate it than taking a factory tour of the Louisville Slugger Museum. Guided factory tours begin at 9 am Monday through Saturday.
