Jeffersonville, Indiana has produced its share of success stories, but few of them revolve around a grown man jumping around a ring in trunks.

None the less, that is the story of local sports icon Nick Dinsmore, today Dinsmore is known as an area pro-wrestling superstar acting as a major player in Ohio Valley Wrestling.
Indeed, OVW has seemed to be home base for a long and thriving career for Dinsmore, who first came to notoriety in the promotion in a tag-team with Rob Conway.

The team was dubbed the Lords of the Ring, a nod to the films which had reached a lot of popularity at the time. Outside of tag-team Dinsmore was and is considered to be one of the greatest to ever hold the heavyweight championship belt.

At the time, OVW acted as a “farm league” promotion for World Wrestling Entertainment, so when WWE went looking towards OVW for talent they’d often send them to the “bigs” for a match so the talent execs of the brand could get a live look at the new prospects. Depending on the situation the match was either “dark” meaning not televised or usually one of the first matches broadcast.

Such was the case for Dinsmore who was called up, appearing on several WWE broadcasts. Also during this time, rival wrestling promotion World Championship Wrestling scheduled the young athlete to several matches on their respective broadcasts.

Dinsmore then signed a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment, being a major “character” wrestler on the brand for several years under the ring name Eugene.

What followed for Dinsmore was a very successful run as the character broken up with occasional stop offs in smaller promotions around the country.

Today Dinsmore still competes as Eugene or with his real name and continues to be a draw wherever he goes.

    About Dave Rose

Recently, I completed a Masters degree in Education and have been writing for Louisville.com for over a year now, prior to that I published a humor book for young adults titled Wearing Socks with Sandals, a book about getting through high school, college, and all of the requisite problems that present themselves during that time. Currently, I spend much of my time in classroom settings as well as writing in various areas. Of course, I’m a big sports fan and love music and film, and love finding new stuff around Louisville.
