Oscar and Donna Brohm are well known locally for their athletic family, the name Brohm in fact, has become synonymous with the University of Louisville. Recently, the Louisville Catholic Sports Hall of Fame inducted the entire Brohm family, bestowing upon them the Howard Schnellenberger Award.

Family patriarch Oscar once commented that he believed his daughter, Kim, might very well be the best athlete among his children. High praise considering the college and professional domination his family has had, with that in mind I thought it only appropriate to take a look at Kimberly Brohm.

Born in January of 1980, in the 1990’s Brohm first came to regional attention at Mercy Academy, where she lettered in volleyball, basketball, and softball. After high school success both athletically and academically (graduated in the top ten in her class), Brohm would go on to continue her three sports dominance at Spalding where she received her degree in English.

However, that Cardinal red was still a part of Brohm’s education, as she would go on to earn her MBA from the University of Louisville in 2005. Brohm did not receive special treatment in the athletic department within the family, in fact she actually told the University of Louisville, “People saw the relationship Jeff and Greg had with Brian, They thought Jeff and Greg were tough on Brian. But they were the same way with me. They helped me just as much in sports. I was closer in age to Brian and we played one-on-one a lot. I tried to help him, too, until he started beating me. Then he was actually helping me.” She summed it up saying simply, “We were really competitive.”

And, that competition had led to a great deal of success for Kim Brohm, and because of that she is a Sports legend of the ‘Ville. (sources)

    About Dave Rose

Recently, I completed a Masters degree in Education and have been writing for Louisville.com for over a year now, prior to that I published a humor book for young adults titled Wearing Socks with Sandals, a book about getting through high school, college, and all of the requisite problems that present themselves during that time. Currently, I spend much of my time in classroom settings as well as writing in various areas. Of course, I’m a big sports fan and love music and film, and love finding new stuff around Louisville.
