A graduate of Male High School, relief pitcher Sean Green seemed to have a great deal of raw talent. So much so that immediately following high school, Green was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays organization. An offer which the young pitcher declined, instead choosing to play for his hometown school the University of Louisville.
The pro’s interest of him never wavered, and after his junior season he accepted a position with the Colorado Rockies to begin in their farm league system, playing with the Asheville Tourists, the Tulsa Drillers, among others.
As is the case in farm leagues today, trades, switches, and shifts are a relatively common occurrence. So, when the Rockies traded Green to work through the Seattle Mariners system it really came as a shock to no one, as he laced up his boots for the triple-A club, Tacoma Rainiers. What was surprising was how talented the pitcher seemed to be as soon as he came into the ball club.
Green didn’t get his chance in the bigs until established pitcher, Julio Mateo, needed a replacement. After Mateo returned though Green had impressed the Mariners management so much that they chose to keep him in the pros rather than sending him back to triple-A, which is typical in that situation.
After proving himself in Seattle, the New York Mets traded for the pitcher. After an injury and some concerns about mediocre play arose the Mets dropped Green.
The Louisville native didn’t stay a free agent for too long though, as he was quickly picked up by the Milwaukee Brewers, who he currently still pitches for.
