September Is National Bourbon Heritage Month
    Print this page

In August of 2007, The United States Congress passed a resolution declaring September National Bourbon Heritage Month.  Nowhere is there more bourbon heritage to celebrate than Kentucky, and Louisville is densely packed with historical bourbon related sites.  Many Louisville establishments are having special events to celebrate Bourbon Heritage Month.  Here is what I’ve found so far:

-Every Wednesday in September, Bourbons Bistro will have free “Bourbon Bites” at the bar to accompany your bourbon.

-Every Tuesday starting in September, Art Eatables will host “Taste Test Tuesdays” where they will roll out a new experimental bourbon truffle for $2.  There will be a limit of one per person so everyone has a chance to try something new.  The first truffle will feature Maker’s 46.  The following weeks’ scheduled bourbons are Old Forester Birthday, ORVW 10, Larceny, and a Private Barrel Knob Creek.

-During the entire month of September, Angel's Envy will plant a tree for every picture of their products you post on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram with the hastag #AE4TheTrees.  So far 91 photos have been posted, and they will max out at 10,000.  Help the earth and the bourbon industry out!

-September 4 from 5:30-8 p.m. Westport Whiskey and Wine will be offering 20% off bourbon flights as well as $2 pours of their favorite bourbons under $25.

-Septmeber 5 from 5-9 p.m. The Evan Williams Bourbon Experience on Main Street will host free tours and tastings as part of the First Friday Trolley Hop.  Charlie Downs and Max Shapira will be on hand for bottle signings and photo ops, and Fred Minnick will be signing his book Whiskey Women.  Click here for more information about my experience with The Evan Williams Bourbon Experience.

-September 7 Haymarket will host a Bonded Bluegrass jam with Hickory Vaught.

-September 7 at 21C there will be a Cochon Heritage BBQ contest to celebrate National Bourbon Heritage Month.
