Rosanne Cash comes from legendary stock. And if you don’t know what I’m talking about then I’m not going to tell you!
OK, that’s not true; I will of course discuss the tree from which this apple fell. Rosanne is the first born child of legendary, Grand Ol’ Opry giant, and music hall-of-famer in everything (rock n’ roll, country, songwriters)…Johnny Cash.
Roseanne Cash blew onto the music scene in 1980 with the release of her second album, Right Or Wrong. The album’s mix of rock, blues, and country influences, introduced her as one of the immutable songwriting voices of the 1980’s – making her subsequent albums, Seven Year Ache, Somewhere in the Stars, Rhythm & Romance, and King’s Record Shop some of the most well respected albums of the decade.
With a consistent touring itinerary and a string of hits in the 80’s, came Roseanne to the 1990’s as a matriarch to a burgeoning scene of female singer/songwriters like Alanis Morissette, Paula Cole, and Sarah McLachlan. After releasing three more albums in the next decade, Interiors, The Wheel, and 10 Song Demo; as well as, appearances at the all-female tour de force Lillith Fair, Cash steered her career into a new millennium.
As Y2k came and went – Roseanne’s music kept strong. Three more albums followed, Rules of Travel, Black Cadillac, and The List. In 2013, she collaborated with John Mellencamp and Stephen King on Ghost Brothers of Darkland County. And 2014 saw the release of her latest album, The River & The Thread, when went on to win her three Grammy’s, Best Americana Album, Best Roots Song (with John Leventhal), and Best Roots Performance (for “A Feather’s Not a Bird”).
Roseanne Cash will be performing in Louisville tonight, April 23rd at KCD Theater with John Leventhal. Tickets range from $52-$62, and they are still available. The show begins at 8 p.m.
