When people think of New Year’s Eve celebrations, they usually think of champagne ball drops, drinking, and dancing. But what about those who are under 21 years of age? Or what about those who, like me, aren’t as interested in being out late on a weeknight? (Full disclosure: I am old.) Doesn’t the new year ring in just as much for us as it does for our more adventurous counterparts?
Indeed it does.
The Louisville Science Center offers up an alternative New Year’s celebration for those like me who want to ring in the new year but still be in bed at a decent hour. The Noon Year’s Celebration on December 31st and January 1st from 11:00 a.m-4:00 p.m. even includes a ball drop of balloons. Yes!
Activities for these two days include:
Messy Afternoon- noon-4:00 p.m.
Gearing up for 2013 -11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.: a family-friendly maker space for taking apart and re-engineering anything with lots of gears, from bikes to clocks.
Louisville Lion Dance Team- December 31st, between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Fireworks demos
Noisemaker Lab-KABOOM!
Balloon Drop-Create your own geodesic sphere with a balloon to be included in the ball drop from the 3rd floor atrium. (This sounds very, very cool.)
