Over the weekend, my children and I were greeted by gingerbread men, lots of merry elves, holly leaves, Christmas trees, and Santa Claus himself. We attended the media preview weekend at Christmas at the Galt House and had a jolly good time!

Christmas at the Galt House has begun. It’s a 6-week run from November 16, 2013-January 1, 2014 and is full of all things make-believe for the holidays. Children will delight in all the activities. We experienced the walk-through of the larger than life luminaries that are the staple of the main attraction, KaLightoscope. Children will participate in a scavenger hunt as they make their way through the lighted displays. I really appreciated how friendly, helpful, and interactive all of the greeters were throughout the whole event. They were so joyful and really seemed like they were thoroughly enjoying sharing the gifts of the holidays with the guests. For more information about events that are awaiting you, ticket prices, and character meet-n-greets, read this preview of Christmas at the Galt House.

After we strolled through the beautiful illuminated handicrafts designed by Chinese artisans, where we saw gingerbread men, snowmen ice skating, Santa rockin’ on his snowboard, and the gorgeous finale with the Nativity scene, we walked into Christmas Village. Here families can meet the Snow Princess, chat with the talking tree, and see all of the motorized animals and village snow scenes restored from Stewart’s Department Store. Venture over to Candy Cane Forest and ride the Peppermint Express Train and meet Ernie the Engineer, sit on Santa’s lap and get a video of you talking with Santa, and experience the new attraction, Santa’s Sleigh Ride Green Screen. See my kids and me sleighing through downtown Louisville here!

My children and I had a fabulous time at Christmas at the Galt House. Children and adults can also vote on their favorite gingerbread houses, with elaborate creations such as Churchill Downs, a Mother Goose fairytale recreation, and a scene from the movie Up. Children can also make snowflakes, draw on the wall(!) and write their Dear Santa letters and place them directly in his magical bag so they will be delivered in plenty of time for Christmas morning. Get into the Christmas spirit simply by attending this event, you won’t be disappointed!
