Shakespeare getting a makeover, a surprise collaboration, and a fairy tale-based musical are set to take place during the U of L theatre arts program's 2012-13 season.
During its season, U of L theatre arts will present five productions: Shakin the Mess Outta Misery (September), Much Ado About Nothing (November), Once On This Island (January-February 2013), The White Rose (February-March 2013), and a collaboration (April 2013). Performances will take place at either the Thrust Theatre or at The Playhouse. Both are located on U of L's campus.
Season tickets are available for $65 per adult, $50 per adult over 65, and $40 per student. All tickets can be purchased at the U of L box office via phone number 502-852-6814 or through the theatre arts website.
U of L opens its season with the African American Theatre Program production Shakin the Mess Outta Misery. The story features an African-American girl growing up in the 1960s while surrounded by influential, older, very diverse women. The production run September 26-30 at the Thrust Theatre.
The theatre arts program will next bring Shakespeare into modern times in Much Ado About Nothing. The Shakespearean comedy is given a modern makeover while dealing with issues of gossip and taking advantage of a situation. Much Ado About Nothing runs November 14-18 in the Thrust Theatre.
Once on This Island, meanwhile, will open the 2013 portion of the season. The musical is based on My Love, My Love, or The Peasant Girl and features a young peasant bringing multiple social classes together thanks to the power of love. Once on This Island takes place from January 30-February 3 at The Playhouse.
The White Rose will be the last traditional play of the 2012-13 season for U of L. The production focuses on Muinch students who battle Hitler's Germany with their own ideals, youth, and courage. The White Rose blooms from February 27-March 3.
Finally, a surprise collaboration will occur between U of L theatre department chair Rinda Frye and others from April 10-
14.
