We see you appreciate a good vintage. But there comes a time to try something new. Click here to head over to the redesigned Louisville.com. It's where you'll find all of our latest work. And plenty of the good ol' stuff, too, looking better than ever.

I used to think that my dream school would be to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry. Ok let’s be real. It still is. But while that can only happen when I read J. K. Rowling’s magical series, I can actually physically be attending pie school. As soon as this Saturday. And that is a fantasy I never thought could become a reality! This is reason 502301 why I love my birthday month. And, of course, Louisville.

    Pie School, that is!

What better place for pie reverie to flourish than at a location named Stellar Sweets Bakery? As an English major and a self-proclaimed dessertaholic, this sugar-devouring wordsmith adores both the word “stellar” and pie. One more than the other. I’ll let you guess which one.

For $30, on February 8th, you can be relishing pre-Valentine’s Day excitement with your (insert adorable pet name here) while learning how to make the pastry that I am convinced could bring about world peace. Not only will you leave with some serious baking skills to satisfy many dessert fixes to come, but you’ll be able to take pie-master Kate Lebo’s book, A Commonplace Book of Pie, as a memento/baking salvation. Fun fact: our own local publishing company Sarabande Books is sponsoring the event for this appetizing book.

Oh, and have I mentioned one of the most enticing parts? After an afternoon of demonstration and culinary interaction, you get to end school the coolest way possible: with a non-humble wedge of gooey, magnificent pie.

I will be putting on my Hermione hat and being the most studious of pie apprentices between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m.

Just make sure to RSVP via email to kmiller@sarabandebooks.org. As would be expected, the space for a pie-centric academy will be filling up faster than cinnamon apples having a jamboree inside a golden crust.

For those who shall be celebrating Singles Awareness Day this 2014, a ridiculously awesome aspect of Pie School is that you can go with a family member or a friend and still have the greatest Saturday afternoon. Make your mom happy. Go rejoice with flour-tinged noses with your best friend. You’ll genuinely be having so much fun in school; you won’t even want to pass secret notes.
