This weekend really marks the beginning of the onslaught of holiday events around Kentuckiana. With it being so early in the holiday season still, you may find it less crowded this weekend if you venture out with your families and little ones.
1. Christmas at the Galt House kicks off the holiday spirit in downtown Louisville beginning this Saturday, November 15. The festivities are ongoing until January 1. So many events to choose from: KaLightoscope, Pam Tillis & Friends Dinner Show, Snow Fairy Princess Tea, Breakfast with Santa, Meet and Greets with Characters, Shopping, Dining, and more. Check out the website for detailed event and ticket information and see the FAQs section.
2. Festival of Trees and Lights is this weekend, from Friday, November 14 through Sunday, November 16. The hours are 10am-6pm each day. On Friday evening (6pm-9pm), families can enjoy a family night called Dickens Family Night. You will be entertained by Dickens-era costumed characters and carolers, an appearance by Santa Claus, free children’s activities and fireworks. See here for more information.
3. “A Coca Cola Christmas” opens Saturday, November 15 at Slugger Museum. There will be tons of artifacts to see and explore, as well as the beloved Coca-Cola Polar Bears and visits with Santa Claus. On Saturdays between Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, Santa will make appearances and take gift requests as he hands out candy canes to the guests.
4. Visit Santa at the area malls. I saw Santa at Oxmoor Mall this week-he’s arrived! And I would be willing to bet earlier is better when it comes to getting pictures with Santa, so why not check that holiday to do item off your list this weekend?
5. Events at the local libraries abound every weekend, especially at the Louisville Free Public Library. On Friday, many of the branch libraries are offering drop-in programs such as Dig for Gold, Holiday Cards for Soldiers, Recipe Scavenger Hunt, and more. Saturday holds just as many fun programs. Next week, the Main Library will host A Nutcracker Storytime with the Louisville Ballet. It’s on November 19 at 6:30pm. Other dates are November 20, 25, and December 10.
