The life, culture, and paintings of Frida Kahlo are celebrated in the Bellarmine University original work Frida Kahlo: A Portrait, which opens Friday.
Frida Kahlo: A Portrait performances will take place on Nov. 9, 10, 15, and 16 at 8 p.m. each night. Shows on Nov. 11 will occur at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and shows on Nov. 17 will happen at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. All performances are to go on in the Blackbox Theatre in the Wyatt Cener for the Arts, located on the Bellarmine University campus at 2001 Newburg Road.
Tickets for each show are $16 for general admission, $10 for senior citizens, and $10 for adults. All tickets can be purchased at the Bellarmine box office. More information on tickets and the show can be found at the Bellarmine University website.
Frida Kahlo was an early 20th Century painter whose self portraits became renowned in Mexican culture. Kahlo's portraits portrayed herself in an uncompromising, honest light, often featuring Mexican culture and her own numerous health problems.
The Bellarmine University production tells her story through realism and cultural traditions, and through multiple sources, among other creative ways. Actors Theatre members helped create the costumes and set while Bellarmine's art and music departments also contributed to the production.
Carlos Manuel created Frida Kahlo: A Portrait, which features Victoria Reibel in the title role.
