    Bit to Do

Novelist James Market brings a tale of Waverly Hills to Barnes & Noble
    Print this page

There are a lot of things in this world that drip.  Trickle.  Drift.  Pour.  This is a wet planet – “the blue planet” they call it – and everything flows.  It is how the earth breathes.  The earth is a sea mammal.

But outside of the obvious – blood, bile, rivers – there are a great many other things that behave just like liquids for us.  Things that move and stream and float and cause erosion in their own way.  We use the same fluid adjectives to describe them.

Things that flow: fabric, hair, dancers, sentences, electricity, time, music.  This is the kind of list that also flows – very, very late into the night with another person and past the sunrise where it will haunt the back of your mind for the rest of the day like a fever illusion.

Music.  Haunt.  Fever.  Here are the building blocks for something, folks.  Spinning a tale of loss and melody against the backdrop of Waverly Hills Sanatorium, author and Louisvillian James Market will bring his new book, A White Wind Blew, to The Summit area location of Barnes & Noble for a special signing tonight, March 7th at 6:30pm.

Originally published in 2010 under the title The Requiem Rose: A Waverly Hills Story, Market’s historical novel of music, death and – ultimately – hope at Waverly Hills has been re-released this year as A White Wind Blew.  Set in 1929 during the infamous tuberculosis epidemic – when a body an hour found its way down the chute and to the morgue – A White Wind Blew tells the story of Dr. Wolfgang Pike, a recent widower, and a former concert pianist who becomes Waverly’s most captivating new patient.  Join Market as he brings this newest version of his vision to the public, and signs his name to the page.

Ink on a page.  Flowing.  Stories flow, too.  They fall one drop at a time – or surge like a garden hose.  Flood like a broken dam.  Spill shattered onto things in a slow leak.  Breathing.  Sea mammal stuff on the blue planet.  It is the nature of the best things here on earth.

The Summit area Barnes & Noble is located at 4100 Summit Plaza Drive.  For more information, call (502) 327-0410.

    About Erin Day

I'm a Louisville native who transplanted home from Las Vegas recently. Don't ask. In my spare time I read a lot of books and drink gin. My soulmate is my 1994 turquoise Ford Ranger - they never made a finer truck. I still totally believe in the Loch Ness Monster. I just want to write for you.
