Nordstrom Rack to open in the fall of 2013 at Shelbyville Road Plaza

Amid all the hub-bub in late January about whether or not Swedish fast fashion retailer H&M would be coming to Oxmoor Center this fall, rumors of another big-name retailer were also abound regarding Nordstrom. Today, the Seattle-based upscale fashion retailer put those rumors to rest. According to our friends at WHAS-TV and Insider Louisville, Nordstrom PR/Social Manager Megan Garvey gave the official confirmation that the retailer’s off-price outlet Nordstrom Rack would be opening its doors to the public in the fall of 2013 at Shelbyville Road Plaza. The best part is where the Rack will be setting up its storefront: The currently dormant former home of late electronics retailer Circuit City. Thus, instead of Halloween costumes this fall, expect to find high-end quality goods from the likes of Marc by Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein and Diane Von Furstenberg, all for a lower price than you would find at a traditional Nordstrom.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Nordstrom Rack – the nearest stores located in Indianapolis and Cincinnati – a little history lesson: The off-price division began life in the basement of Nordstrom’s Downtown Seattle flagship store in the early part of the 1970s. Back then, the Rack was just that: racks upon racks of clothing marked down to clearance prices. Over time and with the parent retailer’s expansion into more markets, the Rack climbed out of the basement to make its own mark upon the fashion world. Today, 121 Nordstrom Racks are sprinkled throughout the 31 states where the Seattle-based parent operates, with Louisville’s entry being the first step into the commonwealth.

What will you find when you step inside the 33,000-square-foot floor space as the leaves turn this fall? A massive treasure hunt full of items from Nordstrom and Nordstrom.com between 50 to 60 percent off original retail prices, for starters. The outlet will also offer wares specifically purchased for Nordstrom Rack for up to 70 percent off the sticker. New daily shipments will all but guarantee that the consumer will find something, whether a new dress for Waterfront Fashion Week, a suit for the big meeting inside Hilliard Lyons, or a fun outfit for the little one in your family. A wide range of accessories, bath and beauty aides, and home accents will also be for the offing, along with in-store alterations and tailoring at a competitive rate.
