With the opening of the Lucky's Market in Louisville this week, foodies got a little excited. So many new specialty foods from this and other areas to try and tell your friends about.
Nine is my lucky number, so here are nine treats I snagged on the store's opening night. They're mostly snacks and standalones, though I'm really looking forward to cooking with Lucky's handmade sausages and bacons, as well. What new favorites have you found at Lucky's so far?
Seaweed snacks are hot right now, since they're low in calories and high in nutrients. These Seasnax are literally hot, with chipotle flavoring. I will and do buy anything and everything with chipotle. Lucky's has a nice little selection of Asian foods, including a pretty good selection of seaweed snacks and wrappings for those who like to cook.
They got me with an impulse purchase on these vegetable chips. I had told myself earlier that I wouldn't buy them, because they are not exactly as healthy as fresh vegetables, what with all the oil, but when I saw these beautiful babies the second time at check-out, I grabbed them. Crunchy and fresh.
I adore orange-flavored cranberries, which I often buy at Trader Joe's. These are from the extensive bulk section at Lucky's. They are moist and sweet -- addictive.
Take your pick of several flavors of Yerba Mate, the South American tea made from holly trees. Lucky's also sells Yerba Mate loose leaf tea.
Oh yes, new coffees to try. The store has a couple of other brands I hadn't seen before, but I decided to try their house brand first. Fresh beans, dark roast. Perfect.
Two pounds of fresh butter, from an Amish creamery in Ohio. This is going to go well with everything.
That butter goes well with these flat breads, from the store bakery. Could not resist these fluffy little pillows.
Peanut butter was on the list of staples we needed to replenish, so I tried this brand, new to me, on a whim. Oh man, we love it! It has a little sugar added, and a strong fresh peanut flavor. Definitely a new favorite -- and I eat peanut butter everyday. I'll be back to Lucky's for more of this.
The cheese selection will take a long time to work through, with so many choices from local makers being especially tempting. We grabbed some fresh Rumiano Jack. Simple, flavorful, and a little goes a long way.
Happy hunting for your new favorites at Lucky's Market.
