Sunday evening, New2Lou celebrated their third year of bringing new residents and the city together, throwing a birthday bash at 21c Museum Hotel on Seventh and Main. The first 25 attendees received goodie bags from Bourbon Country filled with items from the bourbon promoters as well as Louisville Magazine – whose November 2012 issue had a mini-profile on New2Lou co-founder Stacey Servo – and Greater Louisville, Inc. among others. Sponsors Cake Flour, Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts and Why Wait had prizes for those in attendance through a series of drawings held every half-hour, ranging from gift cards to Puccini’s to an Android tablet by MID.
As the gathering would have been too large for the hotel’s bar, New2Lou held the affair under the large atrium, with three rooms full of art for guests to peruse. In the main room, music from DJ Jason Clark of Via Studio weaved its way through the crowd, who were dining on libations including bison sliders, smoked chicken wings and Proof fries. In the smaller room tucked underneath the staircase, a cash bar was ready to provide social lubricant to those needing it.
Among those in attendance included residents from Tennessee, Florida, Michigan, even France, as well as those who were born and raised in Louisville (and thus, can answer the question, “Where did you go to [high] school?”), and those who were born in the city, left, then came back; yours truly is one such person, having lived in Kansas and Washington State before returning home 29 years later. New2Lou itself was founded by Servo and her husband Amador Delatorre, who arrived in Louisville over five years ago from Seattle. The idea came from their real estate clients, who wanted an easy way to quickly connect with the city.
