ValuMarket is one of Louisville's locally owned grocery store chains. With stores in the Highlands, East End, and South End neighborhoods of Louisville, it was logical to open up a new store in the Park Duvalle neighborhood of West Louisville.
In June 2012, First Choice Market opened to the public. First Choice Market is the sixth grocery store in the ValuMarket chain. Owned and operated by ValuMarket, the store operates the same as all the other ValuMarket grocery stores. For a long time, Kroger was the only option in the Park Duvalle neighborhood and not conveniently located to everyone. First Choice Market is now a convenient fresh food source to many community residents, as well as an opportunity for jobs and for building up the neighborhood. The grocery store serves citizens not only in Park Duvalle but also Old Louisville, Pleasure Ridge Park, Shively, Park Hill, Shawnee, Portland, Iroquois Park and even New Albany, Indiana! Just a few minutes from 1-64, the store is a mere ten minutes away from these neighborhoods.
ValuMarket grocery stores are known for their fresh meat and produce selections as well as catering to specific neighborhoods. For example, In the highlands, the store hosts a large organic section and a wide variety of Kentucky Proud products. The Third Street ValuMarket offers aisles of international products to cater to the many refugees who live there. First Choice Market caters specifically to its neighborhood as well and offers many Kentucky Proud products to the community as well as a butcher, bakery and large fresh product section.
First Choice Market is located at 3044 Wilson Avenue next to the Park Duvalle Senior Home. The store features bright colored murals on the walls and offers a friendly and welcoming atmosphere to community residents.
