Part of the bourbon boom of recent years has included a surge in distilleries across the country, including several craft distilleries in Kentucky. Many don’t have the option to hire someone with distilling experience, so they have to start from the bottom. That’s where Moonshine University comes in. Their courses train would-be distillers in the entire distilling process, from grain to bottle.
In addition to full Distiller’s courses, Moonshine University also hosts Distillers' workshops for a variety of different types of spirits, as well as Enthusiast workshops. If you’re really into bourbon and you want to learn the entire process, you can go and take a 1 day course that teaches you the basics from grain to bottle. You won’t be ready to start your own distillery after that, but you will have a greater understanding of bourbon. Moonshine University also hosts the Stave and Thief society, which allows individuals to become Bourbon Certified. Art Eatables and Westport Whiskey and Wine were among the first Stave and Thief Certified class.
