We’ve all been there, haven’t we? Wondering how you will ever be able to find someone you can trust and be nervous they won’t really meet your needs? And then you find them and its magical … I’m not talking about dating someone, I’m talking about something much more intimate, your hair stylist.

All jokes aside, hair can and should be a priority in our appearance; and finding the right person to trust your locks with can be really intimidating. You should do a great deal of research before you make your appointment. The first thing I did in my search for the right stylist was post on Facebook and see what salons were recommended and why. This was a great starting point for me, and let me to look into the suggested salons' social media pages. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pictures from each salon gave me a really good indication of whether or not a salon and their stylists could give me the look I was interested in achieving.

After much deliberation, comparison and social media exploration, I selected Hair by Bennie and Friends in the Crescent Hill / Clifton neighborhood of Louisville. One of the major draws for me was that this salon has their own line of hair care products called BennieFactor. Just like many other people in Louisville, I love to support local businesses and purchase local products, so this salon is perfect for me.

The day of my appointment, I was slightly nervous; because going to a new salon is like going on a blind date. You don't know who you're going to meet, how it will go and if you’d really hit it off. After I checked into Hair by Bennie and Friends I was given a tour of the salon. I met my stylist, Rachel and her assistant Raquel. Both ladies had hair that I loved, and both understood my hair wants and needs.

After my hair was colored and trimmed, Rachel gave me a lesson in styling. Yes, you read that correctly, she taught me how to give myself a blow-out. I was shocked because this was the very first time a stylist took the time to teach me how to style my own hair. At the end of my appointment, Rachel gave me a tailored prescription for recommended products. It was the best first hair date ever and I was on cloud nine about the entire experience.

When I got home and unpacked my BennieFactor shopping bag I realized that each product I purchased has a positive affirmation printed on them. Co-Owner Maria Pollard told me that “BennieFactor is a product line of performance-driven shampoos, conditioners, styling and finishing products that promote inner beauty as well as outer beauty.” I can speak to this philosophy because the products I purchased made my hair look and feel great, and the positive affirmations are an extra bonus for me to read every morning when I am getting ready.

I have my next two hair appointments scheduled at the salon and would recommend it to anyone. Check out my before and after, that blow-out gave my hair a lot of va-va volume.

    About Bella Portaro

Happiness Cultivator. Blogger. Writer. Social Media and PR Maven. Dreamer. Louisville Lover. Blogger at Bella of Louisville; a lifestyle blog. A lifestyle is- by definition to me - the way in which one chooses to live their life. As I’ve entered into this chapter / book of my life with a strong understanding of who I am, lifestyle has become about the art of living well. This idea goes beyond creating a beautiful home and investing in my wardrobe. Living well means being kind, being good company, contributing to your community, and becoming a person of substance and grace. If designing a life full of substance and grace isn’t aspirational, I don’t know what else is. I love writing about events and things to do in Louisville. I hope you enjoy my posts and connect with me on social media!
